“How to make money with AdSense” is one of the most popular topics in Internet marketing forums and the subject of many books and special reports. Its popularity isn’t surprising given the extensive coverage of AdSense in mainstream newspapers and magazines as well as the program’s importance in driving Google’s every-growing advertising revenues. Website and blog owners can’t help but perceive Google AdSense to be an easy way to make money online.

While it’s true that adding AdSense a web page is trivial — all you do is paste some JavaScript code that Google generates for you — learning how to make money with AdSense — especially how to really make money — is decidedly non-trivial. Like anything, it takes time and effort. There are no overnight successes with AdSense.

The key is to know what to work on. Four factors come into play:

Traffic. By far the most important factor is how much traffic you can drive to your pages. After all, you only make money when visitors click (or in some cases view) the ads shown on your pages. If no one’s visiting your site, you won’t make any money. If you want to make more money with AdSense, you need more traffic. (That traffic should be targeted, too, otherwise smart pricing will kick in and reduce your earnings.)

Niche. The niche you’re targeting also has a huge effect on your AdSense earnings. You need to target niches where advertisers are actively seeking customers: if there are no advertisers, you won’t make any money. The simplest test you can do is to search Google for related keywords and see how many ads appear in the “Sponsored Links” section on the right-hand side of the results page. If there are few or no ads, that’s a sign that the market’s not a big one and probably isn’t a great choice for monetization via AdSense. (But you may be able to monetize it in other ways.)

Content. AdSense is all about content. It’s not about search results. It’s not about random collections of scraped data. There’s a reason why AdSense users are called publishers: it’s because they publish content. You need great content on your pages, written for humans and not search engines. Content is what’s going to keep visitors on your site, looking for the information they need. The longer they stay, the more chance they’ll click an ad.

Optimization. Many AdSense publishers spend too much time trying to optimize their pages when they should be spending their time on getting more traffic and writing more content. Luckily, many AdSense optimization techniques do double duty as search engine optimization (SEO) techniques. Concentrate on the basics, like:

Blending ads by removing borders and matching colors.

Positioning the ads in the “hot spots” of a page.

Choosing the right ad formats.

Tracking performance with channels.

These and a few other techniques can make a dramatic difference in your earnings — but only if you have enough traffic.

Note that even a poorly-optimized AdSense site can make its publisher a lot of money if draws a lot of traffic with quality content in a competitive niche. Don’t place too much emphasis on AdSense optimization.

There are no secrets to earning money with AdSense. You just need to learn the right things. Take the time and effort to learn how to:

Drive traffic to your pages.

Find and exploit profitable niches.

Create valuable content.

Optimize pages for AdSense and SEO.

Master these skills and you’ll know exactly how to make money with AdSense!

There is really no doubting that there are amazing incomes currently being made on Google Adsense and the really interesting thing is that even relatively small sites and blogs are finding new ways to make money from their Adsense sites every day.

Actually there are a lot of increasingly creative ways to make money and maximize on Adsense earnings that are being discovered and also being put to use every day. And what’s even more fascinating is the fact that most of these tools being used don’t cost anything. They are actually free. Here are 7 of the most effective currently being used.

1. Ways to Make Money from Adsense by Distributing Articles through Ezine and Article Announcement Lists

Some of the most effective methods ways to make money from Adsense clicks involve the simple step of just increasing the volume of targeted traffic to a site. One of the ways of doing this is by distributing interesting content to ezine lists and article announcement lists. It is not too difficult to quickly build a list that reaches a million or so email boxes and can thus give a lot of visibility and drive tons of highly targetd traffic to your Adsense site or sites. Probably the most popular place for doing this is at Yahoo groups, but there are a few others that you can find easily by using your favorite search engine.

Success here depends on three main factors:

Firstly you should be careful to join article announcement lists and ezine lists that are as relevant as possible to your subject matter and offering.

Secondly your headline has to be a killer headline that will grab readers by the scruffs of their necks and force them to open your email message amongst the dozens or even hundreds of others they receive daily. It goes without saying that the content must meet the promise of your sensational headline. Anything less will cause annoyance and leave all those potential visitors to your Adsense site feeling cheated. And believe me, you don’t want to cause this sort of reaction because it is definitely not one of the ways o make money from Adsense or any other program for that matter.

Thirdly, you will need the sort of resource box in all your articles that will leave most of your readers with no option but to visit your Adsense site.

Within a very short of consistently applying this technique, my daily Adsense earnings increased seven-fold.

2. Ways to Make Money from Adsense by Distributing Free Articles to High Traffic Article Sites

Some people find the recent trends that have seen an increase in article sites surprising. I don’t. The net is primarily an information-seeking tool. Anything that will help improve the search and quality of information will greatly benefit the people making that effort.

Some of the older article directories receive very high traffic, mainly from web masters and site owners seeking quality free content for their sites. So apart from the immediate exposure these sites also guarantee plenty of future targeted traffic to your site, when folks find your articles useful enough to re-post at their sites.

The more new articles you release to these sites every week, the more targeted traffic your Adsense sites will receive. This is in fact one of the most effective ways of making money consistently from Adsense clicks. One of the reasons for this is that targeted traffic will tend to spend more time at your site or sites, and the more time they spend, the higher the chances that they will click one one of the Adsense ads posted there.

3. Ways to Make Money from Adsense by Using Articles and a Viral Marketing Website

Any online marketing technique that involves the use of referral marketing or viral marketing automatically has a huge chance of being a success. The net is ideal for viral marketing and in fact gives any viral marketer huge leverage. Viral marketing or referral marketing is one of the most effective ways to make money online. Just ask Bill Gates.

When Gates was trying to play catch up on the Internet after an earlier mistake of underestimating the future importance of the net, he launched his Hotmail free email service when rivals like Yahoo already had millions of users. He decided to use a simple referral marketing technique. Every Hotmail message that went out had a brief signature at the end requesting the recipient to sign up for their free Hotmail account. Within a few short months, Hotmail had millions of users. And there are many other amazing stories which viral marketing boasts of on the net.

There is one of the very simple ways to make money from Adsense by going viral. Sign up at a leading viral marketing site. You will automatically get your own viral site. You can then use some of your articles to point people to your viral site. The way these sites work is that anybody who signs up at your site will have to visit your Adsense site if you register it at the site. So within a very short time you will be driving thousands of visitors to your Adsense site.

Find more details on this at my blog whose address you’ll find in the resource box below.

Admittedly this traffic is less targeted. Still the huge potential and possible numbers you are able to receive using this free tool more than makes up for this.

4. Ways to Make Money from Adsense with Your Email Signature

People greatly underestimate the power and potential effectiveness of a simple email signature as one of the ways to make money online. Actually this is a viral marketing method because emails get forwarded all the time and are even copied to several other people sometimes.

Do not waste another minute. Go to all your email accounts right now and create a signature that points to your Adsense site or sites.

Writing effective email signatures is a skill that you will have to develop, but I have found that using famous quotes is more effective than a straight advertising message. Always remember that people hate to be advertised to online.

5. Ways to Make Money from Adsense by Asking Questions at Discussion Groups

I recently had an interesting conversation with a young Internet and computer techie. He asked me whether there were quick ways to make money online by answering technical questions and helping people to solve their computer and web-related problems. My answer was that there were many discussion groups where participants would get these answers for free. I advised him that he had a better chance of making money by making use of this free advice available online rather than by trying to sell his own advice.

There are tons of online discussion groups where leading world experts will answer your questions and give you valuable insight for free. It is amazing why most people do not think of using these online forums to learn as much as they can about the most effective ways of making money from Adsense.

These forums can easily be found through you favorite search engine.

6. Ways to Make Money from Adsense by Bartering Your Online Skills for Valuable Adsense Keywords

In the old days, before the invention of money, if somebody needed something, the first question they asked themselves was, “What is it that I already have that I can exchange for what I need?” Barter trade seems to have been forgotten but it is a very powerful method of trading. More so online where people have plenty of skills but are slow to trust others enough to send them money for an item they need.

You can barter whatever it is you have, your skills, products or services, and exchange them for genuine valuable Adsense keywords. Valuable Adsense keywords are the most effective way for a small site with low traffic to earn big cash from Adsense. And you can do this barter trade on an ongoing basis so that you always have a constant supply of valuable Adsense keywords which you can use at your site or blog as one of the ways to make more money from Adsense.

7. Ways to Make Money from Adsense by Sending Teaser Emails to Everybody in Your Inbox and also to Your Opt-in Email List

Most of us receive tons of email in our inbox every day. You’ll be surprised at the huge number of people you know by simply going through your email inbox. No matter how good your spam filters are, you are also bound to be receiving more than your fare share of SPAM or unsolicited email. All this is “gold” lying in your email inbox and there are ways to make money using these emails. All you need to do to process the emails into pure gold is to send out “teaser” emails about the most interesting aspects of content at your site. The whole objective of teaser emails is to get people to visit your site. For instance if I were to send out teaser email on this content here is how I would construct it:

Subject: Free Tools Currently Being Used To Increase Adsense Earnings

Hello,

Just thought you might be interested in this subject, since so many folks online use Adsense these days. If not please accept my sincere apologies. Details are at my site.

www. your site’s address .com

Regards, Chris.

I am sure you can write an even more effective teaser email. It would be a better idea to have a different message for your close friends, a different one for your business contacts and yet another one for those nasty guys SPAMMING you.

These are just some of the many creative ways to make money from Adsense.

Here is an easy way to add Adsense to any page. I offer more details below on how to find background colors for GooglePageCreator (GPC).

* 1) Get the appropriate Adsense code and upload it as a file such as ads_hightower.htm.

* 2) Edit the page where you want the ads to appear and insert:

<iframe scr="ads_hightower.htm" marginwidth="0" marginheight="0" vspace="0" hspace="0" allowtransparency="true" frameborder="0" width="160" scrolling="no" height="600"></iframe>

(the 160 and 600 being of course one of the Adsense Hightower sizes.)

* Your done!

Here is a more detailed look (specifically for googlepages and how to get the background colors to match the ads).

Create and publish the page you intend the AdSense adverts to appear on.
Use your browser to view the page and save your page to your hard-disk using your browsers built-in File, Save-as, Web page command. You should now have a ‘mypage.htm’ file on your computer.

Open the ‘mypage.htm’ using a text editor. (Right click mypage.htm and ‘open with’ your text editor.) Close to the top of mypage.htm you will see the
<style type="text/css">
reference. Most of the ‘mypage.htm’ document is comprised of the CSS (Cascading Style Sheet) information. This information is what creates the look and colors of your page.

Let’s suppose you want to add AdSense to a sidebar (left or right). Scroll about 2/3 of the way down ‘mypage.htm’ until you find

/* Sidebar style
----------------------------------------------- */
#sidebar .links {
background: #F7F7F7;
position: relative;
}

This is the background color of the sidebar on the page you are viewing right now. The actual color is the ‘F7F7F7′ part. Open a new text editor page and copy the F7F7F7 statement into it so you have the reference later. You can now find other information such as the color of your link. In the case of this skin, #sidebar .links has no color associated with it, just the background color. That means that the links are black (#000000). However, most skins will have a statement something like:
Color: #3366FF

You may of course be placing your AdSense into the main content area of your page. Most GooglePage skins have some color in this area (if your area is white, the color you need to know for AdSense is #FFFFFF). To find the color Google used for your skin, scroll back up to about 1/3 of the page till you find:

/* Basic HTML style
———————————————– */

Under this section you will find ‘a:link’ and ‘body’ styles which will include a color: #xxxxxx statement if indeed a background color is used. Copy the a:link color # and the body color # into your other text editor page.

Assuming you already have a Google AdSense account, sign in and click the middle, Adsense Setup button. Next click the AdSense for Content button. Choose Ad unit or Link unit and press Continue. (Google updates and adds to these pages often so specifics here may change, but the basics will remain the same.) Here you can choose which ad format you want. However, ignore that just for one moment. Just below Format you will see the Color option and to your right, the Paletts box. Click Edit Palettes. Are you still with me? You should now be on the https://www.google.com/adsense/colors page.

Now you can change the AdSense colors to fit your GooglePage exactly. Your options are:

Border #
Title #
Background #
Text #
Url #

What you create here is totally up to your taste, but it is recommended to blend your AdSense into your pages skin colors.

Using the example above of adding AdSense to the sidebar on my skin, I added the following:

Border # F7F7F7 (means that the border and background are identical)
Title # 24355D (actually a shade lighter than black)
Background # F7F7F7 (same as the border = no border noticeable)
Text # 000000 (makes the advert text black)
Url # 008000 (the light green color indicating where the advert came from)

Next, save these changes to a palette name such as GPC or Gpages or whatever makes sense and click Save Palette. (For some reason I am returned to the same page and have to click the Products tab (just under Reports) and again pick Ad Units, could just be my browser though.)

Now you should be back at the Products > AdSense for Content section. First pick your Format (size and shape of the AdSense advert). Staying with our Sidebar example, you might want to use the Vertical, 160 x 600 Skyscraper format from the drop-down list. Next, under Color, on the right, click the drop-down list in the Palettes box and you will see your newly saved GPC or Gpages palette – whatever you called it. On the left the screen will automatically show you the colors as they look on a white background.

Continue down the page adding the options and Continue till you get the code offered to you.

Copy that code (just click in the box) and press Control C to copy the code and paste it (Ctrl P) into a new text editor file. Save that on your computer as GPageAdsense.txt or whatever name you prefer.

If you still have your ‘mypage.htm’ file open, you can now scroll down near the bottom to wherever you want to place the AdSense. In keeping with our sidebar example, watch for a statement reading:

<div id="sidebar">

You probably already have links or text or a picture in the sidebar, so scroll down further until you come to the

</div></div>
<div style=”clear: both”></div>
statements (before <div id=”footer”><div class=”wrapper”>

Place your AdSense code BEFORE the
</div></div>
statements. Here is an example from my AdSense page.

<h3 style="text-align: center;">Google links:<br></h3>
<script type="text/javascript"><!--
google_ad_client = "pub-xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx";
google_ad_width = 160;
google_ad_height = 600;
google_ad_format = "160x600_as";
google_ad_type = "text";
google_ad_channel ="3599716003";
google_color_border = "F7F7F7";
google_color_bg = "F7F7F7";
google_color_link = "24355D";
google_color_url = "008000";
google_color_text = "000000";
//--></script>
<script type="text/javascript"
src="http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/show_ads.js">
</script>
</div></div>
<div style="clear: both"></div>
</div>

</div>
</div>

<div id=”footer”><div class=”wrapper”>
etc etc.

Save ‘mypage.htm’ and close the text editor. Log into your GooglePage account and Upload (on the right-hand side) ‘mypage.htm’. Edit one of your existing pages (home for example) and create a link to ‘mypage.htm’. Test your link to see if the AdSense is there and delete the original text page.

NOTE: Do not edit ‘mypage.htm’ with GooglePage Editor since it will delete the AdSense code (at the moment, I suspect that will change soon). If you need to make changes to ‘mypage.htm’ do so with your text editor on your computer and Upload any changes.

Continue through our pages here for tips on getting visitors to view ‘mypages.htm’ so you can make money with your new adsense adverts.
